We are all here not only for ourselves but also for others. Our lives, no matter how isolated or independent we wish to be, are interconnected with the lives of others. It is simply impossible to live on our own - we all need their presence support. One of the best ways by which we can make our lives more meaningful is by serving.
Somebody once said, "Today is a gift from God, that's why its called the present." How do you live each day? How will the value of your days be measured?
What matters is not what you got, but what you gave, not what you have attained but what you helped others to attain. People may forget your personal successes, but they will not forget your significance in their lives. No one has found the true meaning of living until he has surrendered himself to the service of others.
Dr. Hans Selye wrote in his book The Stress of Life: "Neither wealth, nor any other instrument of power can ever be more reliable in assuring our security and peace of mind than the knowledge of having inspired gratitude in a great many people." Ask yourself: What have I done today that affected others? Was it something that did them good?
