FAMILIES ARE FOREVER

"No other success can compensate for failure in the home," declared David O. McKay, one of America's greatest churchmen. Why is the family so central to attaining happiness? The family is the foundation of society. The relationship between society and the family is like that between the human body and its cells. In order for your body to be strong and healthy, your cell structure must be vital and functioning. Likewise, in order for society as a whole to enjoy happiness and prosperity, it must be composed of healthy, happy families.

An article about happiness published in the December 2002 issue of USA Today reported that an overwhelming majority of people defined happiness as more about being close to family and friends and less about having material goods or great wealth. It also revealed that those who were involved in other people's lives more than they were in their own actually thought less about the injustices and misfortunes they personally suffered, and generally were content with the life they had.

The article also discussed the importance of forgiving and forgetting so that small things don't get in the way of developing close relationships. People have an innate tendency to desire healthy, strong, and caring relationships. We all want to pave the way for good communication in order to avoid misunderstandings, don't we? We also want to be appreciated for our differences and be respected for our personal preferences. This is what we all desire in our family.

A relationship is defined as a particular connection between people who have dealings with one another. It's also a continuing attachment or association between two individuals. Human beings are made for each other, and the best in each person can only come out if he or she is in contact with someone else. There is no greater relationship than the kind you maintain with your family.
