Webster's dictionary defines happiness as "as state of being glad, content, lucky or fortunate." It comes from the Old Norse word happ, which means luck. Not suprisingly, it's also the origin of other words like happen (to come about), happenstance (circumstances ascribed to chance), and hapless (unlucky). To be happy, then, is tantamount to making things - good things - happen. Is happiness happening in your life?
I have always believed that while some people know how to be happy, all people have the capacity to be happy, regardless of their circumstances or background. There's no such thing as a permanently unhappy person! The whole reason for our very being is that we exist in order to experience the joys of feeling good, cheerful, satisfied and blissful. Take this away and life has no meaning at all.
For some people, happiness could mean being with a romantic partner. For others, it could mean the birth of a child. And still for other, it could mean buying a new house or winning the lottery. But whatever it is that makes you feel so light and easy, always remember that you must know what kind of happiness you really want.
